I just read an article about how kids at very young ages learn to associate “flavors” (bad fat, mineral stripped salt, and sugar) with factory food products. The researcher was pondering what to do about this.

COOKING FOR DOGS

Charlotte Brontë, my 14 and a half year old whippet, recently went to see a cardiologist about her heart murmur, as a precautionary measure for her flight on Pet Airways from New York to LA. THIS CHRISTMAS GIVE THE GIFT OF HEALTH, SEX, AND HAPPINESS

Christmas is a time of permission to eat, and so candy and cookies and other highly refined carbs are gifts that people give and receive during the holidays. People also give perfume, body lotion, and cosmetics. Cosmetics have some of the nastiest ingredients; it’s really like giving your loved one poison. My grandma used to talk about a friend of hers who murdered her husband (ostensibly intentionally) by feeding him nothing but hot dogs. So I suppose you could commit the perfect crime that way. So there’s a lot of potential for giving unhealthy gifts and indulging in an unhealthy way.

When I was in the sixth grade I decided I would babysit to make some extra money. I put the word out in the neighborhood and a couple down the street called me. When I arrived they were all dressed up like Don and Betty Draper, ready for an evening out.
