MAKE DETOX A LIFESTYLE

When people ask me if I detox the answer is no and yes. The purpose of detox is to rapidly cleanse your system of toxins; something like spring cleaning. So no, I don’t do that. Rather I eat and live in such a way to keep my toxic load as low as possible at all times.

If you are interested in living a detoxifying lifestyle, think of directing your efforts at your liver rather than your colon as the liver is the body’s natural detox center. If you’re eating a toxic diet then there will naturally be toxic substances that are too abundant for your liver to deal with and these toxins end up in your colon. You don’t want that on a prolonged basis as it can lead to leaky gut syndrome, which a lot of Americans have. Microscopic tears occur in the colon and toxins leak out leading to all kinds of allergies and G.I. problems.
So the best lifestyle strategy is a two level approach: 1) avoid toxic overload through your liver which will naturally keep your colon clean, and 2) overhaul your eating and lifestyle habits so that your liver can do it’s job of detoxing.

THE  BASICS OF A DETOX LIFSTYLE

  • Avoid all factory produced foods (including animal products)
  • Eat only real organic food and humanely raised animal products
  • Avoid toxic fats (heat/chemical processed and hydrogenated polyunsaturated vegetable oils)
  • Eat only good fats (coconut, organic saturated fat like butter and red meat, olive oil and cod liver oil)
  • Drink lots of purified water every day
  • You can also drink detox teas that contain a combination of dandelion, burdock, alfalfa, red clover, slippery elm, golden seal and silymarin (milk thistle)
  • Engage in any type of exercise that makes you sweat a lot, (you can also sweat in a sauna, preferably infra red)
  • Toxins are acidic so you want to eat alkalizing foods like organic fruits, veggies (green veggie juice!), organic (preferably raw) milk products, organic whole grains, nuts and seeds and non-GMO spices to help your body stay balanced
  • Get enough sun for vitamin D and eat lots of fruits and veggies for antioxidants and enzymes
  • Avoid obvious toxins like fluorinated toothpaste, chlorinated/fluorinated drinking water, toxic self-care products, chemical solvents, etc.
  • Avoid toxic exposures—you can also take 500 milligrams of niacin a day to release toxins
  • Avoid constipation—you can take 500 milligrams of magnesium citrate per day and increase as necessary. (I am not a medical professional, so please ask your doctor or nutritionist before embarking on any supplement plan)

If you think you have been overly exposed to mercury you can take a chelating agent, which is a compound that binds with heavy metal and pulls it from your tissue and carries it out of your body via urine and stool. These are best obtained and monitored through health care professionals.

There are times when you are exposed to toxins in factory produced food, anesthesia, second hand cigarette smoke, chemicals exposure in third world travel (along with vaccinations,), etc. Going back to a detoxifying lifestyle will bring your body back into balance.
