Many people sincerely believe that they can put anything into their mouths and that their bodies will magically take care of it. But that is not how it works. In fact, what you see in the mirror is a sum total of what you have eaten over the course of your lifetime. And what you see on the outside often reflects what is going on inside of you.
The photo on the left is me on the diet of real food that I talked about in Death by Supermarket. Real food is organically produced meat, fish, poultry, dairy, vegetables, fruits, grains, legumes, seeds and nuts that could (in theory) be picked, gathered, milked, hunted or fished.
The photo on the right was age progressed to demonstrate what I would look like if I had, over the course of my lifetime, eaten the American diet of processed, convenience, junk, fast and otherwise industrialized “factory” products. You have to admit I don’t look very healthy in that age-progressed version.
Americans are suffering accelerated aging because they are not eating real "historic" food, they are eating products. Products are not recognized by the human body as nutrition. In my book I talk about choices. I know it’s really hard to even find healthy food sometimes. But as demand for real unadulterated food increases, we will have more choices and better access to real food. In the meantime, if you want to be healthy you have to make harder choices and sacrifices—like spending more money on food and taking the time to find it and prepare it.
Making changes is up to each individual. Aging is a process that can be reversed at least to some degree. There are things we all wish we had done differently when it comes to diet and life style habits. But it is never too late to change your health, your appearance, and your outlook by eating real food. That is the beauty of the human body.
