Take Back Control of your Life,
November 29, 2007
By  J. Mccall (Portland, OR)

Once in awhile, if you're really lucky, a book comes along that will change your life. Death By Supermarket is one of those books. Initially,I was curious about it because of its intriguing title and now I'm a huge fan and supporter of its message. I have always eaten pretty well--or so I thought--but so much has changed after reading this book.I eat only real food now--foods that have been picked, fished, hunted, and milked. i have completely turned my back on "factory foods," imitation, fake food with ingredients on the label that can't even be pronounced. You've heard of a "fast food nation." Well, i think we have become a "factory food nation," and it has to stop. Reading this book motivates one to stop eating the processed junk and the fake this and that. It's the best diet book out there--and it isn't a diet book! If you eat real food, you will never have to diet again and your body will return to its normal weight. Nancy Deville is an amazing woman with a very important message for all of us. Death By Supermaket is a page turner!
P.S. Don't drink diet colas and don't eat splenda!

Immediate Impact, November 9, 2007
By  William H. Salley (Newbury, MA USA)

I am only half-way through Death by Supermarket and it is already having a profound effect. I am purging my house of high fructose corn syrup and aspartame for starters. I've lost 6 pounds in two weeks without even thinking about dieting. I just finished the chapter on factory milk and have curtailed my consumption. The line about drinking dead pus was what did it for me. My sons and wife are waiting impatiently for me finish the book and pass it along. There should be a copy of this book in every home.

The Answer!, November 4, 2007
By  Shannon M. Maldonado (West Palm Beach, Fl)

Every June, my husband, four kids and I pack up and leave sunny South Florida and head to our home in Ecuador S.A. and the cool crisp weather of the Andes.

After a week in the mountains my whole family feels better, looks better and has double energy.
After returning home this past September I soon began to feel slightly sluggish and noticed my kids becoming more irritable.

Shortly after the kids started the new school year, I turned on my car radio and heard the voice of Nancy Deville for the first time. WHAM!, it suddenly all made sense. THE FOOD!!

Here back in South Florida, our chickens came wrapped in plastic from a giant supermarket chain, not from our neighbors farm down the road. The same with all our meats, fruits and vegetables. In Ecuador we grow our fruits and vegetables or purchase them from the amazing Indian market 5 minutes from our home. No chemicals, pesticides, additives or plastic..

just row after row of the most beautiful natural food you will ever see.

The day I heard Nancy's message for the first time I went straight home and ordered 5 copies of her book "Death by Supermarket".

Her knowledge has changed the life of my family, and my friends families.

We all owe Ms. Deville a giant "THANK YOU" and we mean it!!!!

making the right choices about how to eat, October 21, 2007
By  Grace Gabe (Santa Monica)

With so many choices in the grocery store as well as at the farmers markets, Nancy DeVille's book gives me the tools to figure out what is safe and healthful to eat. Now I know that many of the old cliches about a healthy diet are simply false and that the new gurus are selling some dangerous ideas. I am particularly relieved to have some rules about supplements to follow and a clear presentation of which are the healthy fats. These are things I never learned in medical school!

addresses the corporate schemes to make money off of consumer ignorance,
October 2, 2007
By  Maureen Lehman "Big E" (CA)

Death by Supermarket by Nancy Deville will probably be largely read by people who already feel there's a certain malignancy in super market shopping. However as attracted as I was by the title I feel like the masses are the ones who should read this materiel. The book is so well written for the `average' person to comprehend. I personally shop in farmers markets and health food stores. I read labels and I consult with my doctor. But this book addresses the incredibly scary corporate schemes to make money off of consumer ignorance. I recently gave my daughter in law, who has health issues, a copy of Ms. Deville's book. She was preparing to wean her baby from breast milk to soy milk thinking she was doing the best thing. I earmarked the chapter on soy for her to read. After reading the book she decided not to give the child soy milk because of the facts revealed in that chapter. What's marvelous about this book is that not only through her research she has uncovered and revealed what you don't want to eat but she also supplies you with the solution of the best ways to eat. This book more than any other I've seen about life styles addresses the human desire to be healthy and happy and the simple way to fulfill it by eating real food and at the same time refusing to contribute to the monstrous way we treat animals and no longer being slaves to the drug companies lies for profit.

Mystery Solved. Case Closed.,
September 30, 2007
By  Michael J. Koss "daily reader" (Milwaukee, Wisconsin USA)

Americans are destroying their health through the systematic consumption of foods prepared to satisfy the lowest common denominator in terms of quality, compliance and cost.

Ms. Deville hits the nail on the head with terrific insights into everything from our national addiction to sugar and the grotesque hyper insulin response it is creating, to MSG, transfats and the chemical dump we are creating in our guts and bloodstreams. Is there any more confusion about obesity, diabetes, heart disease, strokes, and even cancer?

Overall the book is a great read, Ms. Deville's tone shows as much genuine concern as it does outrage for the horrible misinformation the food and health care industry has been perpetuating. She also exposes the terrible truth that most of the popular diets used to fix the problem make matters even worse and can condemn our metabolism to a sluggish mess.

This is a great read for anyone genuinely concerned about their health and the health of their family.

A Must Read, September 29, 2007
By  Mary Jane Quinn (Jamul, CA USA)

This is a must read for all parents and grandparents. I am continually dismayed and horrified by what my extended family is feeding their children. There is nary a fruit or vegetable in sight and meat and dairy are the processed kind. Its all full of sugar, salt, chemicals and perservatives. Nancy Deville makes a compelling case for the benefits of "real food" versus the harmful effects of "factory food products". Well done!

LIFE or DEATH BY SUPERMARKET,
September 28, 2007
By  David E. Stein (Newton, Massachusetts)

Why is it that so much self space is devoted to food that shortens our self-life? Nancy DeVille provides answers. Death By Supermarket describes the fascinating evolution from farmed food to manufactured food along with the market forces in play and the dire health consequences. Anyone interested in longevity might want to consume this book.

Right, but slightly too righteous,
September 27, 2007
By  Dean Zatkowsky (Ojai, CA, USA)

I love what this book has to say, and hope Nancy's message gets to the hundreds of millions of people who need to hear it. The continuous vilification of the food industry, however well deserved, did wear on this reader a bit. I don't think anything short of violence will change the corporatist agenda (we easily believe that someone was killed for his walkman or sneakers, but rarely imagine what a CEO might do for a billion dollars. If the food industry is literally killing us, why not respond in kind?), but I'm glad this book is available for individuals who want to eat better, think better, and live more healthfully and happily. When you're reading a food label, remember this: if it don't sound like food, it ain't food. ;-) DZ

A Must Read For Those Wanting To Improve Their Health, September 27, 2007
By  Glenn E. Miller "G. Miller, M.D." (Santa Barbara, California United States)

Death by Supermarket is an incredibly well written and easy to read account of how poor choices in food selection has led to much of the widespread health challenges facing today's Americans. The lack of natural vitamins and other nutritional elements in our modern diet are well delineated, and the author provides useable insights on how to change our "unnatural selection" process to one of healthy and reasonable choices. It is a must read for anyone wanting to make the change to a hopeful and healthy culinary lifestyle. Bravo Ms. Deville on identifying and clarifying a very important issue in today's nutritional insufficiencies, and how to correct them.

What a wonderful book. I really liked how the author discussed the damages that are caused through eating artificial foods and the benefits of eating live foods. I think she makes some valid points and i would highly recommend this book to anyone whether they are concerned with there eating habits or not.

A Must-Read For All Americans!!!!!,
September 27, 2007
By  Rebecca A. Kathrein (Ohio)

Death by Supermarket is an informative, well written piece that explains and disects the growing health problems that have physically and mentally deteriorated American society. The author does a great job explaining how food has become a pollutant engineered without regard to the inner workings of the human body and mind. Despite this real portrayal of America's food problems, Deville offers hope and a remedy by explaining the importance of organic foods. Before reading this book I must admit that I, like many Americans, had lost respect for my body and mind by depriving myself of the natural nutrients and vitamins that can be easily found if you know what to look for. Deville lets the reader know that much of the food found in supermarkets today is synthetic and lacks the essential components our bodies need and crave, but offers a solution by explaining the benefits of organic foods. Since reading this book and following the expertise and guidance of the author, my life has changed and can only continue to get better. I have not only noticed a positive change in my physical appearance, but I also feel more energetic and my thoughts are clearer. This is a must-read for all Americans!!!!

Family that eats really food!,
September 20, 2007
By  Jessica Talley "Mom of 2 boys" (Santee, CA USA)

YES! I cannot say enough about Death by Supermarket. I have two small boys, and just this week went to check one of them into Sunday Bible class and the teacher at one class told me my son is very very smart. I told her that I home school and my friend said, 'she also feeds him real food.' The teacher (who also teaches at regular school) said, 'that's makes a huge difference.'

I too am going to use Death by Supermarket as a reference manual so that I can get others to understand why I put 'chemicals' and 'sugar' down on lists when I am checking my boys into classes and they ask for any allergies. I hope more people will get that we are ALL allergic to sugar and chemicals by reading Death by Supermarket! Before I started telling classes not to give my boys processed stuff I always had a battle of temper tantrums and meltdowns after classes where they had been given products to eat that had sugar, chemicals and dyes.

I had some bad health problems and about two years ago I had an epiphany about what I was eating. I started eating real food and nothing packaged or processed and I lost 35 pounds by just changing to real food. My health is so much better, people are always asking me what I did. When I tell them I don't eat processed food anymore I usually get some sort of puzzled look.....Nancy Deville's book explains it much better than I can.

I also want to say that I have a husband besides my two boys, and anyone who says that preparing food from scratch is difficult or unrealistic has never really tried. It's not rocket science and it in fact has made us a happier and healthier family. My boys jump up and down and beg for the marinated mushrooms and yes they are fussy, sometimes they tell me, "I only want the broccoli!"

Nicely Done!, September 16, 2007
By  N. Saubers "Inside Scoop"

There really is that class distinction that Nancy Deville is talking about, the people who eat real food vs. the people that buy products. I shop for food at a small outlet that offers real food that you have to put together yourself to make meals. I seldom to go the larger grocery stores but when I do I am simply astounded at how different the people look who shop there and equally astounded at what they are buying. In essence look at the outside package the large grocery store chain shoppers are for the most part all poisoned looking, really obese, blobby, grey looking, UNHEALTHY.

I also am blown away not only at what they are buying cartfuls of....but their kids are all drinking slurpys (even little babies barely able to sit in the carts) with bright red coloring so that their teeth and lips are screaming red while they are acting like complete monsters.

On the other hand in the small health food store I shop at people are buying fruits and vegetables, hormone free meats, olive oil and other healthy ingredients and they look healthy, they have pretty skin, are in shape and slim.......

How can someone buy a cart full of soda and boxed cereal when they have a couple of obese children with them? I think it boils down to they don't know any better. Well shame on General Mills, Coke, and Pepsi (not to mention all the fast food restaurants)and thanks Nancy Deville for helping to bring out the truth and save some of these poor kids. My heart just bleeds for them.

Death by Supermarket is an easy read, and Nancy Deville's writing is funny and well researched. It's a must read to learn about how the food, diet, and drug industries are making us overweight and yes dumber....there's no denying that....just look at how bad the kids are doing in school vs. the rest of the world.

Eat Smart, September 13, 2007
By  Arnold S. Jaffe

Nancy Deville writes with clarity and the ability to provide good choices for her readers in turning their lives around by the way they think about eating and eat. In the midst of so many books, she cuts through the chatter and connects the dots between how we eat, what we eat and what conscious choices we can make. She lets the reader decide but gives ample evidence for a smart decision. She sounds like someone I'd like to talk with over a smart meal. Bravo and bon apetit! Arno Jaffe

It is impossible to read about what we are eating and then turn around and continue to poison ourselves and others. Ms. Deville does not leave us on our own to figure out how to make changes but helps guide us to the right choices. EVERY one that prepares food should read this book!

What are you eating?, September 10, 2007
By  Iao (Jersey City, NJ United States)

This is amazing and disturbing. For instance, did you know that they bleach iodized table salt because the iodine gives it a purple tint? So when you eat iodized salt you're eating chlorine. The FDA doesn't require them to list the bleach as an ingredient! If you loved Fast Food Nation you have to read Death by Supermarket.

Brilliant, August 21, 2007
By  Courtney (Cambridge, MA)

The growing waistlines in America have been troubling me for years. With child obesity on the rise today, I've become more interested in understanding why our population is becoming so overweight and unhealthy. In Death By Supermarket, I've finally found a comprehensive and easy to understand reference that explains that the food and drug industries are responsible for our population gaining so much weight, and growing so ill. The book clearly explains the difference between real food and factory food products, how dangerous (yet regularly consumed) these factory food products are, and why they are manufactured in the first place. The appalling part of the story is that we as consumers are conned into buying and eating factory food products, when they provide no nutritional value, and in fact are making our population--including our children--fat and sick.

I haven't been able to put this book down. It is eye-opening, candid, and well-researched, and should be on the bookshelf of every American today. The most enlightening part of the message is that this epidemic is in our control, and the book describes the healthy choices we can make to reverse the path we are on, and head in the direction of being healthy and fit.

After reading this book I know what to do to lose weight, feel energized and look younger. A must read. Eye opening.

You will never shop for groceries the same way after reading this book. I wish I had read this a long time ago. The food industry is killing us!

I would recommend this book to anyone.
